Abstract Background Older adults are often excluded from healthcare research, particularly those with cognitive impairment. It is crucial that study participants have given informed consent and partake in research of their own free will. People impairment not always able to engage the process. This can lead under-representation this cohort studies. Understanding older people’s perceptions important better design policies studies inclusive adults. pilot aimed gain a understanding adults’ views about what they imagine wishes would be if were unable themselves due memory problems. Methods In prospective observational study, recruited outpatient clinics. Consenting surveyed over phone ascertain research. Results Twenty-five interviews conducted. Median age was 76.24 years (range 68-85 years). Most respondents reached at least second level education (80%), most volunteered knowing very little All had nominated next kin.
